Advanced Risk Management Program
This course is designed for farmers and ranchers who have been exposed to futures and options but now want to put them to work for their businesses. The expectation is that participants will emerge from the course with a draft risk management plan for the commodity(s) they produce or purchase.

Days 2 & 3 - Developing the Risk Management Plan I
The elements of a plan
- Understanding your farm’s ability to absorb risk
- Developing your objective(s)
- Defining your trading rules
Once we have defined your objectives and the general trading rules, you will define exactly:
- Where you will enter the market, what you will use for an entry rule and what you will use for an exit rule
- Whether you will use futures, options, or forward contracts
- What quantities you will trade and the information you need in order to calculate your entry and exit triggers
- What action, if any, you will take if you sell too low in the cash market
- What, if anything, you are going to do about exchange rate risk
- What will be the role of your broker and lender Who will be responsible to execute the plan and have the discipline to follow the rules
Program prerequisite
This program is created for those individuals who have a comprehensive understanding of the basic fundamentals and terminology regarding futures and options. Previous trading experience is required.
